About 250,000 people in the United States undergo total hip replacement surgery every year. More than 25% of these hip replacements are performed with metal-on-metal implants. Between 2005 and 2009, tens of thousands of people received ASR hip implants during hip replacement surgery. Worldwide, DePuy has disclosed that it has sold 93,000 ASR acetabular cups.
In its August 26, 2010 recall of the DePuy ASR acetabular cup, DePuy admitted that it had current failure rates of 12% for cups used in hip resurfacing procedures, and 13% for cups used in total hip replacement surgeries. Using the 12% figure, and multiplying it by 93,000, yields a potential total 11,160 patients that may be forced to undergo painful revision surgeries due to the defective ASR hip implant.

If you or someone you know has been implanted with a DePuy ASR acetabular cup, there is a substantially increased risk of cup loosening and metallic particle release, possibly requiring revision surgery. If a revision surgery is necessary, or has already been done, you have legal rights including the right to recovery monetary compensation. Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger was the first firm in the country to file a lawsuit as a result of this defective device, and has since filed several other cases against DePuy. Please contact us to discuss your legal rights.
If you received an ASR hip implant and are experiencing problems, you may qualify for compensation for physical damage, additional surgeries and your pain and suffering.
