A nationwide recall of Viking Range refrigerators was announced after several reports of falling doors. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced the recall and has urged consumers to stop using the refrigerators if there is any indication that the doors are not sealed properly.
“Viking has received 39 reports of falling refrigerator doors, including 12 reports of injuries involving a fracture, bruises, strains and cuts,” the CSPC said in a defective product warning press release. “The 39 new reports are in addition to 57 reports in the previous recall of doors detaching, including four reports of injuries involving bruises, broken toes/fingers, and strains.”
The CPSC also added that there were 25 reports of property damage associated with defective Viking Range refrigerators.
The Mississippi-based manufacturer says that consumers should contact it immediately to schedule free in-home repairs. Consumers are urged to stop using any refrigerators that have doors that sag, or fail to open and close normally as these can indicate impending door failure.
Appliance and specialty stores carried the Viking Range refrigerators across the country from November 2005 to October 2012. The refrigerators sold for between $5,100 and $7,700.
