Jury Awards $240k to Injured Bus Passenger

bus accident

A California jury recently awarded $240,830 to a woman who was injured while on a bus.

The bus was operated by Arcadia of Hollywood Adult Day Health Center. Plaintiff Genia Olshansky claimed that the back of her leg was turn off by an object protruding from a back step of the bus.

Olshansky suffered permanent scarring from her injuries and filed suit against Arcadia. A jury found that the bus operator was negligent in its inspection and/or maintenance of the vehicle.

Bus companies are known as "common carriers" and have a heightened duty of responsibility for the people and goods that they transport. Generally, a common carrier is legally responsible for all damages that arise out of their operations.

In the Olshansky case, the jury awarded the plaintiff $175,000 for pain in suffering and $65,830 for medical expenses.
