Serious accidents are often blamed on teenage drivers, but is sometimes, an older and more experienced driver is to blame, and it is the teens who pay the price.
Recently in Southern California, two high school students were killed when a 68-year-old man crashed into their pickup truck with his car. The California Highway Patrol appears to place blame for this tragedy on the older man, based on a KTLA-TV report.
The story quotes the accident report as saying the older man was going at an “extremely high rate of speed” on the freeway. He took an off-ramp but allegedly failed to obey a stop sign at the end of the ramp.
Instead, the driver tried to turn right but ran into a concrete median, launching himself into the air before crashing into the pickup with the two teenagers inside.
The impact sheared off the top of the truck, severely injuring both younger people. They both died as a result. They were 18 years old.
The other driver and his passenger were both seriously injured. The case was still under investigation, but troopers do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors.
