This Year, We Begin Our 6th Decade of Winning for the Plaintiff.
IN 2010 WALKUP MELODIA BEGINS ITS SIXTH DECADE SERVING clients throughout California and the West. In the last 12 months our lawyers were on the frontlines representing those injured by corporate wrongdoing, vehicular negligence, product defects and medical malpractice. Walkup attorneys donated time and money to legal service organizations benefiting the underserved, volunteered in schools, and helped those whose resources could not meet their needs. Three of our senior partners (Paul Melodia, Richard Schoenberger and Michael Kelly) have been selected to the Northern California Top 100 Super Lawyers list. Kelly was voted to the Top 10 list for the third time in four years.
More than two-thirds of our partners were acknowledged this year on either the Super Lawyers or Rising Stars lists; seven were named to The Best Lawyers in America; four are Fellows in the American College of Trial Lawyers; two serve as board members of the International Society of Barristers; one is a member of the San Francisco Bar Association’s Board of Directors; another serves as President of the San Francisco chapter of ABOTA; five taught or coached at Boalt Hall, Hastings, USF and Stanford law schools. Other Walkup lawyers travelled to Europe and Asia to mentor foreign advocates in the art of jury persuasion; three partners travelled the country for NITA, teaching in New York, Georgia, Washington, D.C., San Diego and Colorado. Locally, Walkup partners and associates supported the San Francisco Bar Association’s Volunteer Legal Services Program, Sonoma County Legal Aid, the BASF Foundation and Attorneys Bettering the Community.
In the courtroom, our lawyers concluded cases in 14 California counties and three different states. Examples of our success included Doug Saeltzer’s 1 million dollar insurance coverage verdict in Los Angeles; Khaldoun Baghdadi and Matt Davis’s 2.4 million dollar wrongful life settlement in San Diego; Doris Cheng’s 1.25 million dollar resolution of an auto collision closed-head injury claim in San Mateo; Paul Melodia’s 4.5 million dollar settlement of a pediatric delayed diagnosis of appendicitis claim; Richard Schoenberger’s 7.75 million dollar settlement against a national big-box retailer arising from a fatal traffic collision in Arizona; Michael Kelly’s 23 million dollar obstetrical negligence verdict in Minnesota.
All of our lawyers listed in Super Lawyers and Rising Stars are AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and are members of prestigious honorary societies including ABOTA, the American Inns of Court, and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Now, as in the preceding half-century, whether thousands have been injured or a single individual has sustained a major, life-altering loss, the firm’s lawyers have a well earned reputation for the relentless pursuit of fair and just compensation.
