Grey’s Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey recently took on a new role: car accident hero. The actor was reportedly in his Malibu home when a 17-year-old driver lost control of his Fort Mustang. The teen’s Mustang flipped several times and landed in the actor’s front yard.
Dempsey rushed to the teen’s aid with a crowbar and fire extinguisher and pulled the teen from the wreck as he was losing consciousness. The actor then called emergency crews and tended to the teen until paramedics arrived.
Despite sustaining a concussion and having an eye injury, the teen recognized the popular TV doctor. The boy’s mother also got a celebrity treat when the actor called her personally to give updates on her son’s status.
Car accidents involving teen drivers are relatively common in California and across the country. Car accidents are the leading killer of teens and teens are more likely to be involved in serious accidents than any other age group.
Dempsey joins a growing list of celebrities involved in saving people from car and pedestrian accidents. Earlier this month, a British journalist was saved by Actor Ryan Gosling in New York City. The London-based journalist was looking for traffic on the wrong side of the road and almost walked in front of a cab when the actor reached out and grabbed her.
In March, professional football player Ben Patrick rescued an Arizona family in an overturned van despite gas leaking from the car. Patrick mounted the overturned van and pulled the family members out one-by-one.
