The American College of Trial Lawyers is among the top honorary societies for lawyers in the country. It’s been around for sixty-five years, and membership is by invitation only. There is an intense vetting process, and the membership cannot exceed 1% of the total lawyer population of any state.
Throughout the history of the firm we have had a number of firm members be selected for membership.
This year at the ACTL meeting in Florida, Doris Cheng was inducted as a member, along with eighty-two new members from thirty-three states. In addition to being inducted, Ms. Cheng was selected to “speak for her class”. Think of it as a kind of valedictory address. The tradition is that with each new class of inductees, one new member is selected to speak on behalf of the people who were selected.
