2021 Northern California Super Lawyers Recognizes Five of the Walkup Firm’s Standout Women Lawyers

The women of the Walkup firm include Doris Cheng, Sara Peters, Valerie Rose, Kelsey Constantin, and Kelly Ganci, three of whom have been honored as 2021 Northern California Super Lawyers for their leadership and mentorship, and professional success.

Doris Cheng is a prominent plaintiff lawyer known for her legal work and leadership as the 106th President of the San Francisco Bar Association. Doris ranks as one of the Top 50 women lawyers and Top 100 lawyers in Northern California. Ms. Cheng has obtained multi-million-dollar settlements and verdicts for disabled citizens throughout California, specializing in complex injuries caused by third-party negligence. Ms. Cheng has extensive experience handling medical malpractice and wrongful death cases. She is a former Chair of the Civility Matters! Program and current national representative for the American Board of Trial Advocates (San Francisco Chapter). Each year, Ms. Cheng is recognized by the nation’s most notable and distinguished legal organizations due to her contributions to the legal profession.

Sara Peters, a Super Lawyers Rising Stars, serves on the SFTLA Board of Directors and contributes to the Rutter Group “Claims and Defenses” Guide, a leading practice guide for lawyers in California. Sara also serves as Co-Director of ABC (Attorneys Bettering the Community), a local nonprofit composed of attorneys who want to volunteer in a hands-on way. Sara is a lecturer in law, Co-Director of the Trial Skills Program and coach of the mock trial team at Stanford Law School.

Valerie Rose has been peer-nominated each year since 2013 as a Northern California Super Lawyers Rising Star – a distinction given to fewer than 2.5 percent of the state’s lawyers. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association. Valerie has devoted her career to fighting for the rights of injured people who have suffered or died due to defective products, vehicular negligence, dangerous property, and medical malpractice.

Kelsey Constantin focuses on matters involving government liability, medical negligence, transportation negligence, and premises liability. She also handles pleadings, law and motion, pre-trial briefing, and summary judgment advocacy. Kelsey joined the Walkup firm as a Civil Justice Fellow and recently accepted a position as an Associate Attorney.

Kelly Ganci is a tenacious advocate for her clients, especially those in most need of her legal services. Her passion for helping others led her to the firm’s mass torts practice. She represents plaintiffs in product liability cases, medical malpractice, mass disasters, school abuse, and toxic exposures. During law school, Kelly was inducted into the Pro Bono Society for her work bringing free legal services to those most in need in her local community and served as a Senior Articles Editor of Hastings Law Journal and a Teacher’s Assistant for Legal Research and Writing.

The Northern California Super Lawyers list recognizes top attorneys through a multiphase selection process involving peer nomination, independent research, and peer evaluation.

Super Lawyers candidates are nominated and chosen based on an evaluation of 12 eligibility requirements, including verdicts and settlements, experience, certifications, and pro bono service. Super Lawyers selections comprise the top five percent of attorneys and are chosen annually on a state-by-state basis. The California lawyers who receive the highest point totals during this selection process are further recognized in the Northern California Super Lawyers Top Lists.
