Walkup Shareholders Named 2023 “Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America”

Walkup Melodia Kelly & Schoenberger is proud to announce that two of its shareholders, Richard H. Schoenberger and Doris Cheng, made the Lawdragon 2023 list of 500 Leading Lawyers of America for their outstanding advocacy in consumer protection. These partners have dedicated their careers to fighting for the rights of consumers. Their recognition as leading lawyers is a testament to their hard work and devotion to their cases. The firm is honored to have such accomplished partners who are committed to providing top-notch legal representation to their clients.

Richard Schoenberger has enjoyed remarkable success in his 37-year legal career. His exceptional skills and presence in the courtroom have made him one of California’s most highly respected trial lawyers. Mr. Schoenberger has held or shared the record for the largest verdict in particular case types in San Francisco, Sacramento, Santa Clara, San Luis Obispo, and San Mateo Counties. In the past year, Rich resolved individual cases for $20 million, $18.5 million, $19 million, and $24.5 million, with the previous constituting the largest known settlement of a medical malpractice case in California history. In 2022, Rich received the prestigious Don E. Bailey Award given to a distinguished San Francisco ABOTA member who continually exemplifies civility, professionalism, and integrity in the practice of the law. He was selected as the 2019 Best Lawyers in America “Lawyer of the Year” for Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs in the San Francisco area. Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.” Mr. Schoenberger has received this award twice, first receiving the honor in 2016.

Doris Cheng ranks as one of the Top 50 women lawyers and Top 100 lawyers in Northern California. Ms. Cheng has obtained seven and eight-million-dollar settlements and verdicts for injured individuals throughout California. She has only represented plaintiffs in personal injury matters throughout her career. She is a co-author of the eminent treatise, The Rutter Group California Practice Guide on Personal Injury, and the trial practice guide, Mastering the Mechanics of Civil Jury Trials.  She served as the 106th President of the Bar Association of San Francisco and received the inaugural Champion of Justice Award given by the American Board of Trial Advocates.

This year’s edition of Lawdragon celebrated women who have founded their law firms or led historic corporate or plaintiff firms nationwide. They are at the forefront of a new wave in a legal profession that sometimes seems assertively inclusive and, in other ways, feels essentially unchanged.

Published annually by Lawdragon, the Leading Lawyers of America guide is curated to shine a spotlight on civil trial lawyers who have earned the respect of their peers and clients, as well as a reputation as the country’s most seasoned and successful litigators.
