Seven bright, optimistic, energetic 2L’s just finished the Walkup Law Firm’s immersive 2023 Summer Associate Program. Each of them had the opportunity to gather hands-on experience in civil litigation while working alongside some of the nation’s top personal injury lawyers. The members of our 2023 class included Stewart Lucas from UC Berkeley School of Law and Corey Jollie, Rachel Cranna, Makena Kershaw, Shaida Shahinfar, Christian Nickolas, and Ian Head from UC Law SF.
“I learned how to think like an attorney, said Shaida Shahinfar of UC Law SF. “I think that was one of the things that I didn’t quite understand in law school. You learn a lot on the academic side, but you don’t really get to see what it’s like in the field. Being able to think like an attorney, think on my feet, think how I can keep the case moving forward were some of the things that I learned.”
This year’s participants were exposed to trials, mediations, depositions, team meetings, and participation in the firm’s annual Brief Writing Contest. Each Summer Associate participants received guidance in writing, oral advocacy, and legal research while working on medical negligence, general negligence, product liability, and government liability cases.
