Walkup shareholder Valerie Rose has filed a civil lawsuit on behalf of the families of two young children allegedly abused by substitute teacher Ricky Linan in the San Juan Unified School District’s Discovery Club after-school program. Linan, 58, is facing trial on 17 felony charges related to child sexual abuse and exploitation involving at least five students.
In an interview with KCRA, Rose stated that the district was negligent in supervising and protecting children, allowing Linan unsupervised access that led to the alleged abuse. Walkup’s investigation revealed that Linan worked at 15 schools across the district, raising serious concerns about its oversight and safety protocols.
Parents and investigators are urging other families who may have been affected to come forward. “These children were entrusted to the district’s care. The system failed to protect them,” said Rose.
