Walkup Partner Andrew McDevitt discusses lawsuit against Tesla

Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger Shareholder Andrew McDevitt recently spoke with several TV news outlets about a recently filed wrongful death lawsuit against Tesla on behalf of the families of two victims killed in a tragic crash in Verona, Wisconsin.

McDevitt, who serves as lead counsel, explained that the 2016 Tesla Model S’s door system became inoperable after the vehicle lost power, trapping passengers inside as the car caught fire. The lawsuit alleges that Tesla’s design, including hidden and impractical manual door releases and a lithium-ion battery pack lacking adequate safety protections, contributed directly to the victims’ deaths.

McDevitt emphasized the need for accountability and design reform, stating that “no one should ever die in a vehicle because they can’t get out after a crash.” The families hope the case will lead to greater safety transparency and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
