Walkup Firm shareholders Matt Davis and Valerie Rose represents a former student of Charles Peck Elementary School and her family in a new civil lawsuit involving allegations of school sexual abuse. The complaint, recently filed in Sacramento Superior Court, alleges repeated sexual misconduct by Carmichael school counselor, Wonyoung Kim, 36, during private counseling sessions and claims that school officials failed to properly document, investigate, or report concerns.

Authorities have indicated they believe there may be additional victims, as the investigation also includes other elementary school students as well as Kim’s role as a youth group leader in Roseville.

The civil case moves forward alongside the criminal prosecution against Kim, who is charged with ten felony counts. According to reporting by the Sacramento Bee, he remains employed by the San Juan Unified School District while on paid leave. (read more)
