Uber Files Deceptive Initiative: Ballot Measure Seeks To Eliminate Victim’s Ability To Sue In Court

On October 3, 2025, Uber filed a dishonest ballot initiative seeking to have voters eliminate the ability of car injury victims to hire lawyers by “guaranteeing”  the victims will recover more money in personal injury cases by limiting the fees payable to their attorneys ( and only their attorneys ). This is the most recent and blatant effort of the billionaires to write themselves a law that tips the scales of justice in their favor. The initiative will force injured victims to deal with ALL auto insurers in ALL motor vehicle cases on their own. Under Uber’s measure, attorneys’ fees payable by victims can be reduced to as little as zero!  The Uber strategy is to make representing injured people economically impossible for competent lawyers so they will refuse to take victim’s cases. Meanwhile Uber and ALL car insurance companies can pay unlimited amounts to their own lawyers so that victims are completely overmatched. Beyond this, Uber has also included a provision that prevents victims from being fully compensated by preventing them from recovering the full amount of their medical expenses and  limiting them to reimbursement of a percentage of MediCare reimbursement rates.   The proposition seeks to portray lawyers for victims as bad people in the hope that voters will ignore the text of the proposed constitutional amendment. This attack on consumer rights must be defeated.
