Max attended law school at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and obtained his J.D. in 2010 with a concentration in Public Interest. He also earned the distinction of Outstanding Achievement in Pro Bono. He was awarded the CALI and Witkin Awards for Bioethics, Law and Society. He represented his class for three years in student government, spearheading initiatives to green the Hastings campus. While in law school he interned for the Wikimedia Foundation, and for California Assembly member Nancy Skinner.
Following graduation from UC Hastings, Max completed an academic fellowship. He conducted research and drafted briefs concerning a variety of issues relating to international climate change, with a focus on programs designed to curb rising carbon levels by encouraging sustainable forestry practices in developing nations. He also provided editing for a manuscript dealing with the history of the militarization of United Nations peacekeeping missions. That manuscript was published in 2011.
Max joined Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger in February of 2012. His passion for social justice drove him to the firm’s mass torts practice. His work at Walkup has focused predominantly in the mass torts arena, seeking justice for plaintiffs injured by drugs and medical devices. Where federal regulations and corporate responsibility fail the public, relief in the civil courts is often the best or only vehicle to promote and realize the rights of injured medical patients.
