Max has quickly gained a reputation as a lawyer who can tackle complex cases and produce results. He has worked through the firm’s and his own leadership roles to help secure multi-billion dollar settlements, including the 2019 landmark $13.5 billion settlement funding from bankrupt utility PG&E to pay families and businesses devastated by wildfires. He has been selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star.
Max obtained his J.D from University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2010 with a concentration in Public Interest. He earned the distinction of Outstanding Achievement in Pro Bono. He was awarded the CALI and Witkin Awards for Bioethics, Law, and Society. He represented his class for three years in student government, spearheading initiatives to “green” the Hastings campus. While in law school, he interned for the Wikimedia Foundation, and for California Assemblymember Nancy Skinner.
Following graduation from UC Hastings, Max completed an academic fellowship. He conducted research and drafted briefs concerning a variety of issues relating to international climate change, with a focus on programs designed to curb rising carbon levels by encouraging sustainable forestry practices in developing nations. He also provided pre-publication editing for a book about the history of the militarization of United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Max believes in the power of the civil justice system to bring about meaningful change that makes us all safer.
