Walkup lawyers serve the community in many ways, part I

With the holidays here, it is a time many people in San Francisco make their annual charitable donations, or volunteer for their favorite causes. At Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger, giving back to the community is a year-round job.

For example, we work with the San Francisco Firefighters during their annual toy drive for children in low-income households. We also support the firefighters’ Foundation for Cancer Research, which works to increase understanding of diseases caused by exposure to combustible chemicals, and helps the search for cures to those diseases.

When it comes to helping the less fortunate, Walkup is a leader in the Bay Area legal community. Members of our firm direct and helped found Attorneys Bettering the Community, an organization that provides aid to the community. Among its efforts is Holiday Bags for the Homeless, which provides socks and blankets for homeless people. Walkup attorneys also support worth causes like the San Francisco Food Bank, Friends of the Children and the San Francisco and Sonoma County Legal Aid Societies.

Because we have served so many people hit by motor vehicles while on foot, we know how devastating injuries from these types of accidents can be. Our staff is proud to be “Presenting Sponsors” of Walk San Francisco, an advocacy group for pedestrian rights. Walkup supports Walk San Francisco’s “Vision Zero”, a campaign to eliminate pedestrian deaths in auto accidents within a decade.

We believe that we have a responsibility to make our community better, both through legal services and work unrelated to the law. We will discuss how Walkup works to provide access to legal assistance to all Bay Area residents in our next blog post.
