San Francisco MUNI Accident Lawyer

Have You or a Family Member Been Injured on or Struck by a Bus, Trolley, Cable Car or LRV?

The Municipal Railway, known as MUNI, is the seventh largest transit system in the nation. MUNI operates 63 bus routes, seven light rail lines, the F Line streetcar and three cable car lines. It connects to Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), AC Transit, Golden Gate Transit and Ferries, SamTrans, Caltrain and the Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority.

As a “common carrier,” MUNI is required by law to use the highest degree of care and vigilance to ensure the safety of its passengers. This means vehicles must be safe and fit to transport passengers, operators must be properly trained to operate the vehicle safely, and safety procedures must be in place to prevent accidents.

MUNI does not always meet those safety goals. Operator errors and safety breaches were on display in an April 2011 video on KTVU showing a MUNI bus driver texting while operating the bus. Following on the heels of that safety violation, CBS News carried a video of a fully loaded MUNI train speeding through a tunnel with a door open and passengers standing nearby. MUNI officials told CBS that the operator was having trouble with the door so he overrode a safety feature and continued operation as usual.

Little wonder, then, that injuries result.

  • Were you hit by a MUNI bus, trolley, cable car or light rail train while walking, biking or in your vehicle?
  • Were you hurt as a passenger onboard a Municipal Railway vehicle?
  • Did a bus driver fail to stop in a safe place so you could board or exit?
  • Were you hurt getting to or from a transit “island” because you had to cross dangerous lanes of traffic?

If you were hurt in a MUNI accident, the law firm of Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger can help. We are San Francisco’s oldest and best-known personal injury law firm. Other Lawyers Call Us for Advice on MUNI Injury Claims

Don’t delay in contacting our team if you were hurt by a MUNI bus or train. MUNI accident claims — and all claims involving public transit in California — must be made within six months of the injury or you lose your right to recovery. This is a shorter statute of limitations than for most injury claims.
